Data Catalog
by EasyMorph
Easy uniform access to all the data your team needs
About
The Data Catalog solves a problem that virtually all medium and large organizations have — poorly organized access to business data. Every day, business users require all kinds of corporate data: orders, customers, inventory, transactions, payments, and so on. However, providing such data to them has many complications:
-
Data comes in multiple formats, e.g., spreadsheets, text files, databases, or JSON/XML. Accessing it requires different applications and various, sometimes non-trivial, skills (e.g. coding in SQL or Python). Not everyone who needs to work with data has such skills readily available.
-
Data is provided via multiple channels, e.g., emails, shared network folders, databases, internet, and web APIs. Each channel requires using a different application to access it which aggravates the problem with skills.
-
Finding required data in all these channels can be tedious. Lots of high-value data remain underused.
-
Sharing data with teammates and colleagues may be easy at first. However, as data multiplies, sending reports by email or dumping hundreds of spreadsheets and text files into a complex structure of network folders becomes tedious duty.
-
A lack of governance and access audit. For example, a report can be produced regularly and saved in a network folder for years without understanding if anyone still uses it and whether the report data is still correct.
A poorly organized access to data puts an unnecessary burden on employees, overloads IT departments with requests for reports, and slows down organizations. The current state of affairs is usually seen as an inevitable evil, but it doesn't have to be so.
The Data Catalog provides a clean uniform interface to find and access internal and external data and files for anyone in your organization. It's a single governable channel of delivering any data to business users regardless of the original data format and source. Unlike the existing data cataloging solutions that are heavily IT-centric, the Data Catalog is intended for non-technical people first of all. It's easy to set up and configure. Datasets in the Catalog can be produced, published, and consumed in a self-service manner by people without a technical background, such as accountants, marketing analysts, or HR managers.
